Friday 22nd April

Hi Year 4

The end of the week but not the end of the learning for this week in Y4 DM. Homework task sheets were sent out today as well as the newsletter for the Summer term. I’m looking forward to seeing how my pupils respond to some of their new challenges.

Spellings were studied in a different way today. The children cut out letters from newspapers to make the words on their list. The results looked like ransom demands but I think it helped the children to study the words carefully.

The challenge was too great for many children in our maths lesson today but even though no one was able to complete the task, I was delighted by the level of determination, perseverance and resilience that so many children displayed – even Alex didn’t manage to find the final solution to the question! It delighted me that Briony was the first one to provide a correct answer to the initial part of the problem. She knows that when you fall into the pit, you keep climbing until you get out – and whatever you do, look up not down.

This afternoon we split into our House teams with children from all classes to design a logo and flag and to refine/remix our House chant. Sorry to say that this afternoon Wentworth, Turnberry and Sunningdale all wasted their time. Birkdale (my team), have once again shown that they are the top team. They behaved brilliantly and showed wonderful kindness toward each other, plus I’m confident we have the best ideas and designs. #winningteam

Star of the Day / Star of the Week is Ben. I can’t think of any lesson where Ben doesn’t produce superb work. His hunger for knowledge and determination to succeed is hard to match. What makes me even more proud is his modesty, kindness and respect for others.

Next week we’ll be going deeper into our ‘flotsam’ project. Our multimedia and literacy work will capture the strength of our creativity and imagination, and on Friday we will share and display with our families, the treasures that we have gathered from our fantastic fortnight with Mrs Johnston.

Be safe, be good and be here on Monday.

Mr Moore

  1. Thank you Year 4 DM for teaching me so much in the space of 3 days! Your enthusiasm to animate and create, your stillness to observe and have a go as well as the depth of integrity in your dance has been a privilege to be a part of. Here’s to another week of precious ‘Flotsam’.
